Appreciation of Teachers

I went to another amazing early children education teachers’ conference in Washington DC.  It always gives me re-newed hope for our future when I experience the wisdom and dedication of our teachers.

Teachers are among the  most hard working people in our society.  They have the responsibility of educating and assisting in the moral character development of each new generation of children.   Many of us would not have the patience to perform this task each and every day with with so many children, who can be very challenging on the best of days.

My focus at this conference was on the social and emotional development of young children.  In these difficult times, there is a growing need for children to learn these skills.  The anxiety level in many of our struggling households has risen, which easily spills over to our children.

Our teachers  are out there eager to meet this challenge and looking for new teaching methods that will assist them in the classroom.  My curriculum was met with enthusiasm and teachers were excited with my new teaching strategies.  It is awe inspiriting to experience this level of caring that teachers have for the future of our children.

Thank you teachers everywhere for all of your dedicated and extraordinary work.  I truly appreciate all that you do.  Our future depends on it and I am sincerely grateful.

Acknowledge Our Blessings

Reflect on your present blessings, of which every man has many; not on your past misfortunes, of which all men have some.
~ Charles Dickens

How often do we find ourselves focusing on our problems and not even aware of our blessings?  It is so easy to get caught up in the negativity that seems to continuously surround us and bombard our daily lives.

Let’s just turn the dial on our thinking and reflect on all of the blessings that really surround us.  It is time we fully acknowledge our many blessings and appreciate all that we have.

What is it that really matters in our lives?  For most of us, it is the love and relationships that we experience with our friends and family.  These are the true blessings and create the richness in our lives.

It is so easy to take these things for granted.  I went to work today and for the first time in a while really experienced the incredible joy that I have in my job.  The people that I work with are amazing, generous, kind and loving.  When I walk through the door with a smile, there is usually one there in return.

When at home, I can enjoy the love and companionship of my family and friends.  Even when I am alone, I can meditate, relax, listen to music, do journal writing, read a book, take a walk, or almost anything that I wish.

Why then would I choose to focus on problems?  Let’s bring more joy into this world and acknowledge our blessings.  It is amazing how contagious our happiness can be.

“Humor is our Swimming Belt”

“Humor is the swimming-belt to use in the waters of life.” ……….A German Poet

How often in life to we forget to laugh, forget to find the humor with each other, in what we are doing, and the situations we find ourselves.  It is so easy to look at the deeper, “more critical and serious issues that we face today”.  But what  if we just let them go for awhile to add some fun in our lives.  The issues will still be there and chances are we can’t really fix them anyway, at least not at the moment.

I personally do not add enough fun in my life.  I tend to be serious most of the time.  Maybe I am a little out of balance and I am out there swimming in my waters of life with a life jacket that is mostly out of air.  This is making it harder for me to swim or even tread water without getting very tired.

I am now ready to add some air, “humor” into my life jacket and have some fun.  It is absolutely time for this.  I want to get back in balance and start enjoying my life more.  If I start laughing and doing things that are fun, I will automatically start engaging others around me to do the same.

Why don’t we all make it a point to put some fun into our very busy and hectic lives.  Laughter is very contagious.  Let’s play some games with our friends or families, go somewhere fun, plan a crazy meal together, watch a funny movie, go to the park and swing or go down a slide with our children, sing some songs together, better yet go for a walk with someone and sing out load, or be spontaneous and silly.

Let’s just be sure to have fun.  Remember, as a German poet once said, “Humor is the swimming-belt to use in the waters of life.”
